Brayden Justin Hansen was born on January 21, 2013 at 5:13pm. He weighed in at 8lbs. 2oz. and was 19.75 in. long. It is so fun to have a boy and we love him to pieces! The girls are great big sisters and love to help mom take care of him. I had an induction at 39 weeks. (I love my doctor!) We called the hospital at 5:30 and they told us that they had a nurse call in sick and to call back at 8:30. So we tried to go back to sleep but that was a little difficult. So Justin called them at 8:30 and told him that they might have room for me at 10:00 and to call back then. So we waited some more. At this point we decided that if they told us to call back again then I would just wait until the next day. Well 10:00 finally rolled around and they told us they had room! We ran down to the car and drove to the hospital. (Side note: I was suppose to be at the hospital at 6:30 and have my water broke then and the doctor was hopeful that he would be here by 10:30. Instead I was just arriving at the hospital. Bummer!) We got to the hospital and signed my life away again. Haha. Got all situated and then my nurse came in and asked me 50 questions (at least) and started my IV and pitocin. After that we sat around until 12:00, for the doctor to come in and break my water at the beginning of his 'lunch' break. He told the nurse to keep upping my pitocin every 30 mins. Well, after having Justin help to the bathroom twice, an alarm going off for 30 mins, and 3 pages for my nurse, she FINALLY came back into the room to see if I was having any contractions. (Remember, my nurse told me that she had my contractions and his heart beat on a monitor at the nurses station.) So she knew that I was not having contractions, not a single one! So from 10am-2pm...still no contractions...nothing. She told me that she was waiting for my body to start the contractions on its own...well that didn't work. At this point, I'm feeling very frustrated because we had to wait 2 hours for the dr, then another 2 hours of just sitting around, and my nurse pretty much left Justin and I to fend for ourselves for 4 hours. Lame! Anyways, after 2pm the nurse finally kept coming in and turning up the pitocin every 30 mins, like she should have been. At about 4, I could really start feeling the contractions and I got my epidural, being 6 cm. After about 45-50 mins, I could start feeling some pain and I called my nurse in. I was complete, 10 cm. Well, the doctor came in just after 5pm and told me to start pushing. Well, I started to push and I thought that I was going to die! The epidural was very spotty. I could feel everything except for the contractions, which made it harder to push with the contractions. I couldn't see the monitor and the no one would tell me when I was having a contraction. I started pushing at 5:10 and I felt one little relief and I thought that his head was out, then the Dr says that his head is almost out. I was like, "What!?!?" His head come out very soon after that and then they said that his shoulders needed to come out still. I was in so much pain and the Dr could tell. He was trying to help by getting one shoulder out while I pushed. YIKES! That was painful. After his shoulders came out they gave him to me and he was born at 5:13pm, but I had a hard time holding him because I was still so uncomfortable and in pain from the placenta still in. The Dr pulled slightly on the cord while I pushed. After the placenta came out, I was so shakey and all I wanted to do was cry because of the hormones and adrenaline rush but I didn't want to freak my doctor out. He kept asking if I was okay and I was. Well, the first relief that I felt was me tearing so I had to be stitched up and I could feel every stitch. With the adrenaline pumping it could have been a lot worse, I'm sure. However, this experience has made me realize one thing...that is as close to natural child birth as I ever want to come. I give props and my respect to women who have done so.
